This is another one of my favorite images. It’s been a part of my collection since 2005. I captured it one afternoon on a day trip – more like a wandering day dream, actually. I stumbled upon this pond that seemed undisturbed. In the sea of green pads floating on its surface, there stood this one lone white flower, just begging to be admired. So I did.
This is “Water Lily“. I was pleased with the image once I got to processing. I just had no place for it. Lily sat in my archives for a bit until I had the opportunity to donate a piece to a charity art event two years later. “Water Lily” was popular at that event so I decided that the next chance I had, it would hang.
Fast forward to 2012. I decided this one needed to be different than the other pieces in my recent show. So I created a vertical triptych for the “Scene|Unseen” show. It received wild response – but sadly, no buyers. (Interested? Make me an offer!) No matter, I love it and I have it hanging in our home. I look at at every day and find something new to admire.
So why do I love this so much?
It’s “artsy” for one. I over heard one viewer at the opening event describe is as a Monet painting. I heard another describe as a church window. I’m just thrilled it was received so well. I was actually expecting it to be a marquis piece in the show. I was right. (swollen ego fits in right about here)
Why else does this live near the top of my favs list?
I see depth – it seems as if the pond stretches on and on.
That little white flower is rugged. It’s a survivor. I admire that.
I see color – I remember capturing what seemed to be a perfect summer afternoon in that water. It’s cool and soothing.
I see a little magic in the reflection and I also see a loneliness and solitude. Some days the bright flower perks me up while other days, the blues match my mood.
Finally, I love art that changes with my mood and can also change my mood.
You?
