About “Drum Corps is Art”
Ansel Adams once said, “A good photograph is knowing where to stand.” This is completely true when capturing the art of drum corps. Drum Corps moves; constantly. It’s never ending. If you are not in the right place at the right time, you miss it. There are emotional expressions, physical effort of movement and even the fine details where the performer connects with its audience.
When watching a drum corps live in performance, the viewer has the advantage of sound to accompany the visual spectacle. The senses become filled with the energy of the artistry as it happens. In a gallery setting, the moment is frozen in time allowing it to be savored. It is in this moment we can study the extraordinary passion of the performer. It is this frozen moment where the activity becomes great art.
